Mr. Mike Myers (Social Sciences department) propping up ” Pod Saves America” (Aderonke Adebayo )
What is one of your favorite podcasts?
“I mention it in my classes a bunch of times: ‘Pod Save America’ hosted by Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, Tommy Vietor, and Dan Pfeiffer”
What is the podcast about?
“It’s a politics podcast hosted by four people who have all worked in the Obama administration at high levels. While they’re certainly biased in terms of coming at it from a very progressive point of view, I find them thoughtful enough that their bias doesn’t… block.. alternative points of view.”
Which segment of the podcast do you like the most?
“The interviews at the end, when I’m familiar with the subject. Even when I’m not as familiar with the subject, for instance, maybe it’s some person running for a representative in a state that I don’t know much about, there is almost always something interesting about their case.”
Did the podcast change or confirm any previouslyy held opinions or perspectives?
“ The interviews always teach me interesting things. Recently I just heard an interview with Josh Shapiro, Governor of Pennsylvania. It gave me insight into his background. Since he’s a likely presidential candidate, that’s useful to me, so I can make an informed decision on election day.”
Would you recommend this podcast to your students? Why?
“Yes, I would…With all these political podcasts, I hope it’s an invitation to the table, it models what people care about and why politics are interesting. ”
Out of five, what star rating would you give this podcast and why?
“It’s a five. When you’re a teacher, you think in terms of preparation and planning, and even if I don’t always do it really well myself, I know what it is. The classes that students typically like are those in which the teacher puts time into putting it together. I feel like those guys have done that with this podcast.”
