What is the most recent book you’ve read? How did you start reading it?
“A friend gave me a book called ‘Money’ addressing the history of how money has developed… it is told in an interesting way that draws you in,” – Ms. Irving (Social Sciences Department Chair)
How did this book change or confirm your opinion about money?
“ I think it confirmed what I already thought … Money is a motivating factor for comfort and supporting loved ones, but it can go too far…, and we can see when it is tied to power and status, especially in our own country.”
How did this book affect you?
“I’ve used some of the information in my teaching.”
What surprised you when reading the book?
“ Around a month ago, I went to see a movie called ‘Peaky Blinders.’ During part of the movie, they’re trying to blow up fake British pound notes that Nazi Germany had printed. I was reading that same part of the book when I went to see the movie, and it was really interesting to see it appear in a fictional situation.”
Would you recommend this book to your students? Why?
“Yes, for students who have an interest in economics and the impacts of history, as it adds interesting tidbits to the story line of history”
What star rating would you give this book, and why( out of 5 stars)
“Three and a half . If this was someone who didn’t know the history and discovered this book, it might be a five out of five.”
