Senior Alejandra Hernandez Cornejo is this year’s Student Council President. During her freshman year, Hernandez Cornejo believed that her class was not as tight-knit as it could be, leading her to join Stuco to help unify the school. Hernandez Cornejo says, “My favorite part of Student Council is seeing students enjoy the events that are planned. Whether they’re our own council members, laughing and smiling at their efforts, or the student body singing and advertising their clubs. Simply knowing that our efforts are truly accomplishing our goals is the most fulfilling part of being in Stuco.” Hernandez Cornejo hopes she can continue to increase communication by hosting town-hall meetings for students to voice concerns and get informed. Outside of Stuco, Hernandez Cornejo is President of Tango Nuevo Estilo and Senior Committee, an LSC representative, NHS member, and is part of Isang Hakbang and Japanese Honor Society. She also loves nature and animals – particularly cats, she has three, all of whom are alleycats.

Junior Kushala Anantharaman is the Vice President of Student Council. She served on her middle school’s student council, and “enjoyed helping [her] school’s community rebuild after the pandemic, creating a space that students were happy in. [She] developed a passion for advocating for the student body and creating long-lasting solutions to problems that affect the student community,” prompting her to join Stuco at Northside. Anantharaman is also a student representative for LSC, part of the Student Voice Committee, plays for Varsity Badminton, and is a dance captain for NCP Shakti. She has been performing Bharatanatyam, an Indian Classical dance, since she was 9 years old. She hopes that Northside sees a successful Bunny Bowl this year.

Senior Will Moran is the Secretary for Student Council (Stuco). He “enjoys being able to make a measurable impact on the student body and school.” He hopes Stuco can “put on more events to get the student body more connected.” Moran spends lots of time on the field and court, representing Northside as a Varsity Soccer, Basketball, and Baseball player. He’s also in Irish Dance for I-night. He encourages everyone to show up to more sporting events.

Junior Ethan Turkel is Student Council’s treasurer. During his sophomore year, Turkel “joined the tennis team, where it turned out that there were not enough matching jerseys.” He was inspired to join Stuco to reallocate funds more appropriately. He decided to fill the position of treasurer to help increase the budget for Northside’s activities. Outside of Stuco, Ethan is a member of the DND club, the tennis team, and quizbowl.

Senior Audrey Smith is Stuco’s PR Manager. Smith joined Stuco to be more involved at Northside, saying that last year she was “on the fence about running and wasn’t sure if [she] would do it…However, [she is] very glad [she] joined because [she] found a way to make an impact at Northside.” Smith hopes to continue organizing events, giving the 20-hour show more recognition, and making the student body more informed on decisions made by the administration. Apart from Stuco, Smith is Vice-President of Hypnotik and dances for Afrikan. She also plays lacrosse and is excited for her senior season.

Senior Parker Hill is Stuco’s Webmaster. Hill has wanted to improve the school since his freshman year, and joined Stuco to be around other advocates who care about Northside. He “knew that Stuco used to have a Webmaster, and [he] was surprised that it was a role left vacant. [He] wanted to make Clubapalooza more accessible through an easily navigable website and shed light on Stuco’s activity online.” He hopes that he can continue helping Stuco by creating a website to share club info and provide contact information for Stuco members. Apart from making websites, Hill leads Tango Nuevo Estilo, competes in the Japan Bowl, and is treasurer for the Japan Honor Society.

Cecile Garcia is one of Northside’s Senior Senators. Garcia has always been talkative with her classmates and would often hear concerns from them. She knew that Stuco would give her a platform to help out her fellow classmates. As senior senator, she enjoys all the meetings with Stuco and thinks they have a good balance between “locking in” and bonding. Outside of Stuco, Garcia dances for Irish club and Greek club and is a part of Student Radio, Peer Mentors, and Stage Crew.

Sarvesh Swaminathan is one of the Senior Senators on Student Council. Since he joined Stuco, Swaminathan has always been aiming to change Northside for the better. He “noticed how no dividers for the urinals made a lot of guys use the stalls instead, which used more water per flush than a urinal.” Swaminathan sought to join Stuco to address issues like these. In addition to student council, Swaminathan runs in Cross Country and Track, is a member of Red Cross Club, and enjoys writing stories in his free time.

Ashaar Behlim is one of the Junior Senators and enjoys working with other students to improve communication within Northside. Before joining Stuco, Behlim noticed many students’ voices were unheard. He wanted to become a friendly face to whom anyone could voice their concerns. Behlim says, “I am reliable and take my responsibilities seriously. If someone shares a concern or idea with me, I make sure it is heard and followed up on.” Apart from Stuco, Behlim can be seen helping out at pep rallies, engaging in the Muslim Student Association, and playing for NCP Golf. Moving forward, he hopes “Stuco continues to improve communication between students and school leadership. Making sure students feel informed and included is something [he] think[s] can make a big difference in school culture.”

Luis Delgado is one of the Junior Senators and joined Stuco to be the voice for the voices unheard. Delgado said, “For too long, students who don’t fit the role of ‘popular’ have felt like they don’t matter. I joined to show them that every voice matters and that I will fight for their voices.” He hopes that Stuco can promote Mental Health Awareness month this May. Outside of Student Council, Delgado is a member of the Student Voice Committee, dances in I-Night for Sabor Latino, and is president of NCP Dreamers Club. He wants the student body to know that if they “have an issue, feel free to come up to [him].”

John Sebastian is one of the Sophomore Senators. Sebastian was “primarily concerned about the water fountains, as some of them were kind of broken and others just looked out of shape.” Addressing maintenance issues such as these drew Sebastian towards Stuco. As a senator, he enjoys having a behind-the-scenes view of how problems are solved and events are planned. You can find Sebastian on the tennis court, dancing for Polish and Tango, or bringing the competition to debate.

Fiona Stiglitz is one of the Sophomore Senators and joined Stuco to refine her leadership skills, advocate for her classmates, and be more involved in her community. She enjoys getting to help with events that bring the student body together. Moving forward, she hopes Stuco can build stronger connections with admin. Stiglitz said, “I love to learn about people’s stories and their experiences so I can learn to be a better and more inclusive leader.” Outside of Stuco, you can find Stiglitz chatting with her swim and water polo teammates in the swim hallway.

Larry Nguyen is one of Northside’s Freshman Senators. He enjoys being in Stuco, as it allows him to connect with his peers on a deeper level. Nguyen said, “I wanted to join Student Council because I noticed how hard freshman year was impacting my friends and peers. I wanted to help, but I felt like I wasn’t quite on the level to do anything useful.” Outside of Stuco, Nguyen stays busy by competing in Robotics, Science Olympiad, and the Math Team. You can also find him in the pool with the swim team.
