What’s on your fall playlist? Ask Northside’s Student Radio for some recommendations. Launching this year, they have big plans to support Northside’s music community through open mics, newsletters, podcasts, and carefully crafted “seasonal playlists.”
Northside’s Student Radio, also known as Stradio, was in the beginning stages of development at the end of last year and during this past summer.
Co-presidents Regina Killealea and Cecilie Garcia stated they were inspired to begin the club in order to promote student music, something they both are passionate about.

“We want to try to have podcast episodes where Northside students can sign up to talk about their interests, especially as they pertain to music,” Regina said. Additionally, Stradio plans to host “three open mics per year” and release bi-monthly student music-focused newsletters.
Many different club members, including social media and website managers and underclassmen representatives, are involved in ensuring the club’s success. Cecilie also said, “People who aren’t necessarily on board have volunteered themselves to come help out.” These “volunteers” help the run smoothly.
Stradio hosted their first open mic on Thursday, November 6th in Northside’s choir/band room. Regina says this open mic was “a bit of a test run” since they are “kind of figuring things out as [they] go.” However, they are very confident in the success it will have.

Social media, specifically Stradio’s Instagram account and website, have been the club’s biggest outlet for getting the word out about upcoming events and news. Club members repost the Stradio account’s posts to bring attention to this effort.

Regina, being a junior, has plans for the club’s progress next year. She plans to work closely with underclassmen and board members “so they know exactly what they need to do and how they can communicate” with staff and other student radio groups.
“We have a solid group of underclassmen involved,” Regina says. “The expectation is that they’ll carry on the club once we graduate.”
