A Letter From Your Editor-in-Chief
Dear reader,
I’d like to introduce myself. I am the Editor-in-Chief of the HoofBeat, and I am honored to have this platform within the Northside community this year. I joined the HoofBeat as the News Editor last year and ever since have been captivated by the amazing students, teachers and individuals around me. The privilege as a journalist to share the stories of our community members has been an incredibly fulfilling experience.
Although school and many other parts of your life look different this year, we are still committed to our mission of keeping you informed and updated. We may not be together at 5501 N. Kedzie, but the Northside community remains connected in new ways. While we navigate this virtual space together, we will work to bring you stories that highlight the diversity of experiences in our student body.
With so much going on in our world right now, journalism is vital. We need clarity, transparency, and most importantly, fairness. Here at the HoofBeat, we understand that. Our Editorial Policy holds us accountable to you and all members of the Northside community.
Student journalism is crucial as we navigate COVID-19, racial injustice and a presidential election. Needless to say, there’s a lot at stake. I understand how difficult it can be during these times, but as your school newspaper, we are here to play our role. To provide an interesting story, make you smile, give you a chance to reflect, offer you a new perspective.
As I navigate leading a newspaper virtually, I’ll have my Assistant Editor Iliana working alongside me. Together, we look forward to an unprecedented, nonetheless memorable, year at the HoofBeat.
Stay safe and have a great year, Mustangs!
Sincerely,
Yomi
