We’re excited to introduce Ms. Monik Flores, a new English teacher at Northside. Ms. Flores is committed to nurturing the growth of their students both in and out of the classroom.
Reflecting on her own high school experience, Ms. Flores recalls the transformative impact of reading Night in her sophomore English class. For Ms. Flores, literature has always been a way for her to understand herself and others on a deeper level.
Inspired by her high school teacher, Ms. J., Ms. Flores became an educator who provided the same support and guidance she once received. “I wanted to be someone who students know is in their corner,” she said.
What does Ms. Flores love most about teaching at Northside? The students.
“I really teach the best students,” Ms. Flores said. Whether it’s a thoughtful comment in class or a simple hallway greeting, the daily interactions serve as reminders of the goodness in the world. She also expressed gratitude for the supportive staff, noting how laughter and camaraderie enrich their experience.
Outside of teaching, Ms. Flores immerses herself in her passions for people, stories, and art. You’ll often find her capturing moments with her camera, enjoying coffee at local cafés, or attending live music events.
As a photographer for a music publication, Ms. Flores has the chance to blend her love for art with her passion for music, attending at least ten shows each year.
And when it comes to Halloween? Ms. Flores has a soft spot for costumes, reminiscing about her favorites, including Moana and Toad. “I got to wear a fun little hat,” they laugh, showcasing their playful side.
