Northside kicks off Homecoming 2024-2025 with Spirit Week. Organized by Pep Club and Student Council, this special week is an opportunity for students to showcase their school pride by dressing to the various themes.
-
Tuesday, October 15: Wild West
-
Wednesday, October 16: Barbecue Dad vs Soccer Mom
-
Thursday, October 17: Teacher-Student Swap
-
Friday, October 18: Bikers vs. Surfers, Homecoming Dance
Phaelyn Burns (Junior) is most excited for the first day—Wild West theme—because she “loves [wearing] cowboy hats and boots,” hallmarks of Western style.
Students are anticipating the ever popular Teacher-Student Swap on Thursday.
Naile explained that while she doesn’t have an outfit planned yet, she’s “most excited to see what people wear and what teachers they choose to swap with.”
John hopes to expand the theme beyond just the dress-up aspect, hoping the “teachers will act like students too.”
This year there are two competition themes—Bikers vs Surfers and Barbecue Dads vs Soccer Moms. Sarinah Aman (Sophomore) expressed her enthusiasm for the Barbecue Dads vs Soccer Moms theme, saying she “wants to wear an apron and a spatula” to harness her “chef energy.”
For Bikers vs Surfers Day, we should expect to see Hawaiian t-shirts and leather jackets being worn in the halls on the day of Homecoming.
Pep Club’s sponsor Mr. Curry (Special Education) said that he sees the theme days as a “reflection of [today’s] generation,” and “trusted the Pep Club board” and their decisions.
Pep Club board member Sadia Hussain (Junior) explained that many theme ideas came from looking for trends the student body might enjoy while considering what the administration might agree is appropriate..
