The Hoofbeat spoke with Principal Stuber about the May 23 incident that caused damage to the building. Here are her responses:
- What does the school know about the incident? Can you walk us through what led to the building damage, including the timeline?
- Early in the morning on May 23, the administration was informed that multiple windows were broken and that there was glass on the floor. The administration immediately partnered with Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago Police Department. We believe the incident took place overnight, outside of school hours.
- How long will it take to get the windows replaced?
- The team is expected to repair the windows in June after the school year ends.
- Which windows were shattered (in which specific rooms/areas)? Where were they? What other parts of the school were affected by the incident?
- Note: I want to be mindful of safety. There are still boards on the windows, and publishing that information concerns me. I do not want to name specific areas. Only one of the damaged windows shattered, 7 windows were damaged in total. By the end of the day the incident occurred, we had a team board the windows. Any other damage was minimal and easy to repair.
- What resources were offered to help the students who felt unsafe?
- As we communicated to students, any student who felt unsafe could go to the counseling office or the main office for support. We have an amazing support team who are always on hand to help students.
- If parents/community members have any questions, who should they contact?
- Principal Stuber at [email protected]
